Studies of the Archetypes in Young Children: The Innocent

We all start out as innocents — sentient little beings wondering at the world in all its intricate and magnificent glory. The innocent is the child amazed at studying a flower or hearing a new kind of music, or in the case of the baby above, ripping paper. This to him is amazing and hysterically funny, as the surprise of the sound and the creating of little pieces gets him more and more entranced by the activity. Interestingly, the story behind this paper being ripped up is that it was a job rejection letter the father had just received. Perhaps that added another level of depth to the child’s experience of innocent joy with his father as they rip up the letter.
